Mission Trip to Puerto Rico News

We are planning a short term mission to hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico this spring. The trip is likely to take place around the last week of May. The American Baptist Churches has a strong presence in Puerto Rico, so we would be working side by side with fellow American Baptists. The cost is very reasonable. If you are interested, there are information and registration packets on the back table.

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Details
  • Deadline to make up my mind: April 18, 2018
  • The work Week: May 21-25 2018
  • Flights from Portland, Sunday, May 20th: one at 5:30 am and another at 6 AM (two different airlines)
  • Return flights to Maine: anytime after the 25th. Those already scheduled will be departing Puerto Rico on the 29th.
  • Where we will be working: ABC missions will let us know as we get closer to the time, based on the skills of the team and the needs that we can meet.
Curious? Grab an info packet at the back or go to: abhms.org/ministries/healing-communities. From there click on Volunteer mobilization ministries, then
rebuilding, Puerto Rico, choose either info flyer or registration forms.
A Fundraising dinner is planned for Sunday, April 29th in the evening.
Fundrasing Dinner Notes
  1. The Dinner is on Sunday, April 29th at 5:30 PM
  2. The menu is pot-luck with a twist. Bring a favorite recipe and/or one with a story. “This was uncle Clyde’s favorite deer meat recipe, but aunt Hattie never once made it with deer meat.”
  3. We’ll have time during the meal to share why this is a favorite recipe or why there is a story to go with it.
  4. The meal is strictly on a donation basis. If you cannot afford a donation, please come anyway.
  5. Great news: the choir will be making a musical presentation, so if your friends didn’t make it to our Easter service, make sure you bring them along! It sounds like it is shaping up to be a mini concert.

Adult Sunday School Class

Here’s a special invitation to all adults to attend Jeff Morse’s adult Sunday School class. Jeff has a very insightful understanding of the Scriptures that is helpful to all who must navigate their way through this difficult world. The class is lively, has a discussion format, and as an added bonus, the Scriptures discussed on a given morning are the same ones used in the morning worship service. This is a wonderful way to prepare oneself for worship!

After the Service
We invite anyone with a burden or just needing prayer to come to the front of the church to pray. A brother or sister in Christ will meet with you there to uplift you. Anyone who is seeking, but has not yet found Christ is welcome to come for encouragement and prayer. The Bible says, “Today is the day of salvation.” There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents!

Box tops for Education
One of our Sunday School teachers would like for us to collect “Box tops for Education” These can be found on selected cereal boxes and other products. Please place them in the marked box at the back of the sanctuary.

  1. There seems to be some confusion as to your mailing/delivery address. I’ve got FedEX,UPS, and USPS mail over the past few years that was directed to 112 Main. So it’s 212 Main St.? I’ve called the USPS to tell them and even called one of your suppliers to tell them they had a package delivered here incorrectly. They researched and called me back telling me to keep or discard the item and they would send to your correct address. Just thought you should know. 😉

  2. Would you possibly have a printed copy of the message given just before communion on Easter Sunday? It was about death. I found it to be helpful to me having lost my mother in November of 2016 and a special aunt in December of 2017. I have told several people about it, but I can’t remember the exact message, just that it was comforting. The death as part of life message was simple yet so exactly what it’s all about.
